FIDO Alliance launches a barometer for authenticating changes in habits, certification

The FIDO Alliance, which strives to create a password-free world by addressing interoperability between strong authentication devices, launches a new tool to measure authentication trends and welcomes two new members: the Axiad cloud-based passwordless authenticator and cloud asset security management company Vectoredge.

The new online authentication barometer, launched at the ongoing Authenticate 2021 conference, tracks the security measures people take online, to determine trends in the use of secure authentication technologies. The tool will look at ten countries and start tracking behaviors and attitudes over time.

Until now, passwords still reign supreme. 56% of people have used them to log into financial services in the past 60 days. After passwords, the most common online authentication is biometrics such as fingerprints and face scans, used by 35% of people. Usage varied widely, but all ten countries reported at least 25 percent.

Attitudes towards biometrics are also positive. 32% of people consider it the most secure authentication method and it is the preferred method of 28%.

Professional certification program

A new “FIDO Certified Professional Program” to complement the Alliance’s portfolio of certification programs with recognition of individual skills and expertise in FIDO standards and architecture has been developed.

FIDO Certified Professionals must have the advanced technical knowledge necessary to analyze business needs and define the FIDO architecture tailored to their needs.

The program is recommended for technology architects, systems and operations engineers, security professionals, and identity and access management professionals, according to the announcement.

“There is a great global appetite for authentication solutions beyond outdated and insecure passwords,” said Dr Rae Rivera, FIDO Alliance director of certification. “But with passwords so embedded in the world of digital security, many organizations are struggling to know where to start. Growing the global pool of authentication experts with this certified program is key to guiding more businesses quickly and confidently in the right direction, while ensuring that talented professionals have the means to demonstrate their market expertise.

Axiad aligns and enters into alliance

“We are delighted to join the FIDO Alliance, especially as FIDO2 becomes more and more important for the future of passwordless authentication,” said Yves Audebert, co-founder and co-CEO of ‘Axiad.

“What makes FIDO2 such an attractive authentication standard is not only its wide adoption across the business ecosystem, but also the fact that it supports the use of corporate information. Identification built into strong end-user computers and devices today. “

Welcoming Axiad to the alliance, Andrew Shikiar, its Executive Director and Chief Marketing Officer, said: “Axiad’s expertise and support in promoting FIDO authentication and their mission of alignment aiming to simplify authentication processes and encourage companies to “break their passwords for good” makes them extremely well-suited as a member, and we look forward to their contributions.

Axiad Holidngs recently secured a $ 20 million investment from Invictus Growth Partners to accelerate the growth of its password-less platform. Axiad is also participating in the Authenticate 2021 conference in Seattle, organized by the FIDO Alliance, starting Monday, October 18.

Vectoredge simplifies customer security, becomes a FIDO member

Another new member, Vectoredge protects cloud assets against violations caused by excessive permissions resulting from issues such as cloud application misconfigurations. Its scalable, AI-powered authorization platform also enables organizations to take a standardized approach to overcome the challenges of manually creating and controlling user groups with varying identity permissions.

“The FIDO Alliance welcomes our new Associate Member Vectoredge and thanks them for their commitment to strong authentication for the benefit of the online community of providers and users,” said FIDO’s Shikiar.

“Vectoredge service providers understand the need for a new user authentication model that confirms and protects user identity, while simplifying the user experience. “
