Huawei Sticks with integrated fingerprint sensor for P50 Pro

Huawei continues its support for advanced biometric authentication technology with the release of its latest smartphone.

According to GSM arena, the new Huawei P50 series has become the latest phone on the company’s list to have a built-in biometric fingerprint sensor.

While details on the manufacturer of the sensor have yet to be confirmed, Huawei has a pre-existing relationship with Goodix, having used its sensors a few years ago in the P30 and P30 Pro versions.

The inclusion of in-screen biometric technology continues a rapidly growing trend that has the potential to catapult the technology as the next trend in smartphones. This seems particularly likely given recent reports that a recently discovered patent filed by industry leader Apple indicates that future iPhones will have sensors built into their displays that would allow optical sensors capable of recognizing both face and face. fingerprints.

Other details that have emerged from the launch of the P50 show that the Pro version will be powered by the Kirin 9000 processor and will have 8GB of RAM paired with 256GB and 512GB storage options.

Continuing Huawei’s trend of outfitting their phones with powerful cameras, the P50 Pro will feature a 13 MP selfie sensor, as well as a 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilization and a 3.9x zoom on a periscope lens.

It is not yet clear whether the devices will be available in the United States or whether continuing tensions with Huawei will impact their availability, as was the case with the release of the P30 in 2019. The device will begin shipping to customers. in China on August 12. .
