If you have ever been a Samsung smartphone user, you are probably familiar with Samsung Pass. The app is native to all modern Android phones equipped with fingerprint sensors produced by the Korean giant, and is widely used to record and store login information securely, behind a fingerprint lock.

When using your Samsung phone on a daily basis, every time you sign in to a new account through a browser or an app, you are automatically asked whether you want to save the credentials to Samsung Pass (i.e. – say if you already have Samsung Pass set up).

Not only is this used to automatically fill in the login information in the future, saving you precious time, but you can also use the fingerprint scanner to access the Samsung Pass app itself and view all your words. password protected. Samsung Pass has one limitation, and that is the lack of password backup

While Samsung Pass is an incredibly handy and fast everyday tool, it has a limitation that many users may not be aware of, but which could be extremely frustrating if the worst were to happen.

Samsung Pass can only be linked and accessed by your biometric information. If for some reason your Samsung phone’s fingerprint sensor stops working, your access to Samsung Pass is permanently deleted. While you can set up Face ID with Samsung Pass on modern phones, it still requires at least one of your fingerprints to be registered in order to work.

This worst-case scenario was experienced by one of our loyal readers, who pointed it out to us with all the hassle he suffered while trying to regain access to the Samsung Pass (unsuccessfully, by the way).

While this was frustrating enough, WL quickly realized that the incident had also permanently cut off his access to the Samsung Pass and all sensitive data stored inside.

WL spoke to several Samsung representatives, who informed him that because the Samsung Pass was designed to work only with personal biometric data, he could indeed no longer access any of his stored passwords without a device with it. a functional fingerprint sensor on board.

How to delete Samsung Pass data

The only “good” news in the unfortunate scenario where your Samsung phone’s fingerprint sensor stops working for some reason, is that it is still possible to delete all data stored outside of the app. Samsung Pass, without entering the app itself.

This can be done by going to Settings> Biometrics & Security> Samsung Pass. From there, tap the three vertical dots to open a drop-down menu with more options, and then tap Settings.

Tap “See all devices using Samsung Pass” and then tap Remove for the device you want to remove Samsung Pass from. Once you tap on it, all Samsung Pass data that has already been stored on this device will be deleted and you will be logged out of the app.

How to set up Samsung Pass

If you haven’t set up Samsung Pass yet and plan to do so now, it’s an extremely straightforward process.

Go to Settings> Biometrics & security, then tap Samsung Pass. Tap Accept, after which you will be prompted to sign in to your Samsung account. From there, just follow the onscreen instructions to complete the setup.

After that, open the Samsung Pass app using your fingerprint. Completing the setup process only takes a few more steps, and you’re done!
