FIC Report (Lagos State) – The Lagos State Resident Registration Agency (LASRRA) has announced that everything is ready for the official launch of the Lagos State Resident Identity Card (LAG Identity Card).
Announcing the launch date, the Managing Director, LASRRA, Eng. (Ms.) Ibilola Kasunmu, said the new LAG ID card will be launched on Wednesday, July 20 by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Police College, Ikeja GRA.
The launch will take place, simultaneously, in the five divisions of the state: Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island and Epe.
Kasunmu, added that one of the highlights of the day will include the live demonstration of the smart card, its benefits as well as the unveiling by the Governor.
Speaking on the new LAG ID card, Engr. Kasunmu revealed that the new card is integrated with more features and functionality to provide cardholders with wider and faster access to services provided by the Lagos State Government.
Additionally, cardholders can also use it as a payment card for services from multiple providers, including buses and ferries; supermarkets, as well as cash withdrawals from bank ATMs.
Engineer Kasunmu called on state residents who have not registered to do so by visiting the website www.lagosresidents.gov.ng.
She noted that once registration is activated online, residents should go to any LASRRA registration center nearest to them so that their biometrics can be entered to complete the process, adding that registration is absolutely free.
Further, she urged those who registered in 2018 or earlier and those who changed their name and/or address, to make changes by validating/updating their records with the same process, after which they would be called upon to take the new LAG. ID card.
Kasunmu, pointed out that one of the reasons residents with older cards need to do this is that the upgraded LAG ID is embedded in a multi-applet chip module that stores some of the updated biometric data and biometric details of the resident for real-time validation. and identity verification.
She explained that the old identity card was only for identification purposes.
“Holders of the old card must update their records to obtain the new LAG identity card which is valid for 5 years. The new board provides flexibility, to integrate more functionality and expand usability given rapidly changing technology trends,” she said.
Engineer Kasunmu added that other benefits of the new LAG ID card include easy access to educational services for children and students at all levels of education, as well as faster access to institutional health services. public.
