SES RFID presents a biometric smart card with sensor in PVC

The cold lamination technology acquired by SES RFID Solutions to place biometric fingerprint sensors under the PVC layer of smart cards appears to have been fully integrated and implemented.

SES RFID acquired the Jinco Cold Lamination Technologies unit in an agreement earlier this year to enable SES to add manufacturing capability to its BIOMTX biometric smart card solutions and services. SES RFID, with offices in Germany, Taiwan and the United States, hosted “key members” from Jinco Universal at the time.

BIOMTX cards provide “hidden, embedded fingerprint sensors for smart cards and highly secure devices,” according to a post on LinkedIn.

The BIOMTX boards are shown in a YouTube video, with the sensor area shown with a printed image of a fingerprint, rather than a visible sensor. The demonstration is that of a physical access control scenario with a proximity reader. The card operates without a battery, harvesting power from the reader like most fingerprint cards.

SES RFID owner and managing director, Martin Scattergood, says Biometric update that the cards are sampled now.

“We have clients aligned internationally and are working on new projects,” says Scattergood.
